Frank van den Hoven – Orthodontist
As an orthodontist, I optimize the function of patients’ teeth and jaws.
With the help of MIO personal training I optimize the function of my body and especially that of my back, which endures a lot of stress during my work. The training sessions also stimulate my brain.
The major benefits of personal training for me are: 1) tuning into personal needs and capacity of body and mind, 2) coaching on correct technique (injury prevention), and 3) increasing motivation.
I always feel very satisfied and happy after training with Mike.
Melanie & Eddie – Partners
As two true Burgundians who love life, we have been trying to find a balance between enjoying life but staying fit for years. To be honest, we always tried but failed. Exercising half-heartedly during the week and celebrating life during the weekend made us anything but fit. After last summer we knew we had to make a big change and we knew that we needed to commit to it. We found our change in Mike. We told him our goals and he has given us a clear and feasible plan to reach them. The training sessions are tough but effective and everything is explained calmly and clearly. The result was visible quickly and that was the proof we needed that we made the right choice. We still support our decision to work with a personal trainer for 100%. And although we still have a long way to go, we’re convinced that we’ll stick with it this time!
Edward Pietersveld – Clothing store manager
“Getting in shape”, sounds good doesn’t it? But how do you achieve this if you don’t feel comfortable exercising? Just when I was “done” looking for motivation to work out … MIO personal training, or the man behind it, Mike, appeared on my path. With Mike I went beyond a simple cardio exercise. No, this approach required commitment and dedication! We got one step further every session. I am so proud of what I was able to achieve. Both physical strength and a good mindset. Mike picks up your challenge with you, to become a fit and healthy person again. And as a cool side effect I really started enjoying sports. The bar I set for myself is a lot higher now.
Having Mike as a trainer & as a buddy has been a good influence on my life: it gives me a positive vibe! And best of all: I feel much better throughout the day by really being active.
And so now I can say with certainty: go for it and go hard! The limit does not exist.
Marita & Anne-Maire – Partners at the GGD
Personal training at MIO means getting fit with a smile. After a day of hard work, when you feel you would prefer to lie down on the couch and do nothing, Mike’s PT recharges your energy. At our age, no longer at the youngest or fittest moment in our lives, we still wanted to exercise, become fitter and healthier, and stay that way. As health prevention doctors working in public health, we know how important staying fit is. But how can you do that in a way that is also fun? And what will keep reminding you to commit and stick with your good intentions? The answer is MIKE!
With his knowledge, patience and humour, Mike ensures that we enjoy working out and that we become stronger and fitter. He motivates you to give just that little bit extra, even though you yourself would have stopped already. But he also monitors that you are doing every movement the right way, making sure you’re not going too far and forcing yourself or overloading your muscles. As a result, your condition and all muscle groups get well-trained, including your laughing muscles. We return home twice a week after the training with a tired, trained body but full of energy and in good spirits.
If you don’t move you won’t get anywhere!
Jean Pierre – Violin maker
In January 2018 I decided to take a completely different step in my career: I wanted to go from working as a technician to becoming an air force military soldier. The idea was there, now I needed to actually do it. The biggest obstacle for me was that I had not exercised for years and the requirements for the physical inspections were relatively high. A friend of mine had recommended Mike and during our introduction we were both already very enthusiastic to get to work.
Mike knew how to get me ready for the specific inspection quota: a 4 to 5 day weekly training schedule aimed at, among other things, passing the cooper, marching, lifting and carrying tests. We had a very productive and, above all, incredibly enjoyable time working together and I could not have wished for a better personal trainer.
Luka Meijers – Mother of Klaas
Since Luka is in the final stages of her pregnancy, I (Mike) am writing a piece on behalf of Luka about training during pregnancy in general.
It is very important to keep moving during pregnancy. Of course not at the level that you normally have outside of pregnancy, but it is a must. Maternity fitness helps you keep your muscles, ligaments and joints supple and loosens connective tissues. Moreover, it stimulates blood circulation and metabolism. Posture exercises (isometric – holding a position under pressure) are a good way to stay in shape during your pregnancy. It is however important to rest during the last weeks of pregnancy, when the body needs to prepare itself for giving birth.
A personal trainer can create a personal training schedule suited to your fitness level, paying close attention to your posture. Because you receive one-on-one guidance, this is the most effective and safe form of training during pregnancy.
As a trainer I feel very privileged to train Luka during her pregnancy.
On behalf of MIO personal training, I wish Luka strength and good luck in everything.
Roger Dassen – Real estate entrepreneur
As a real estate entrepreneur, I am mentally and physically active all day. Since my physical condition is important to me, but I don’t know how to train it optimally, I went looking for a personal trainer and I soon ended up at MIO personal training.
During the intake it stood out to me that Mike knows what he is doing and that he would be able to guide me well in achieving my goal. I mainly wanted to get “in shape” again physically. My body could become a bit stronger and tighter in my opinion. Structure and a clear step-by-step plan were very important to me.
And just to be clear: dreams don’t work unless you do. Do not assume that just by taking on a personal trainer all your dreams will be fulfilled. You have to work hard. The combination of knowledge, repetition and perseverance ultimately will determine whether you will succeed or not. I want to wish everyone good luck on his or her path to fitness.
Nathalie Cox – Maternity nurse
Whether you’re 20 or 60 years old, weigh 50 or 90 kilos, you are always welcome at Mike’s. Really welcome. Everyone is greeted with the same enthusiasm and treated with the same integrity. Training with Mike made me physically fit.
But more importantly, under his guidance I have also become a lot stronger mentally. During the sessions you endure a bit of pain, and sometimes more than just a bit, but afterwards you feel so good that you look forward to the next time.
Aschwin van Diermen – Orthomolecular Therapist
I met Mike when both of our businesses where based at the same location. Because of our mutual interest in health, we actually got along well immediately.
Mike focused more on sports and I focused more on nutrition. Both of us continuously work with people who in some way struggle with their health. Complaints can vary enormously and sometimes it is necessary for people to focus more on exercising, with a plan. This is exactly what MIO personal training offers.
What I like about Mike is that he is very down to earth and has built up a lot of knowledge about his profession in a relatively short period of time. He also knows how to go in depth and pays attention to the fine details. I do the same thing in my field, and I know this is necessary to distinguish yourself.
In addition, Mike’s training sessions are fun and varied, and he knows how to continuously motivate you to go just that one step further than usual. This way you reach your absolute limit every session, but still enjoy it!
Diana Stassen – Owner Ster in Zorg
At first I wasn’t sure if personal training would suit me. I used to think it was about obsessing over that prefect figure. How wrong could I be.
Working on your health while enjoying it actually can go hand in hand. I’ve been training with Mike for more than two years now. It’s not just about exercising. It is a ‘gift’ to myself, to invest time and energy in my health and well-being.
In addition to the fact that I stay physically fit, it also provides mental relaxation and trains my perseverance. Exactly what I need as an entrepreneur.
Sven Wiertz – Commercial Director MECC
During the PT with Mike I always go further than I would in the gym. It’s just really going at it for an hour straight, working on fitness and strength. Lots of variety and professional guidance. Mike knows exactly what he’s talking about, is very knowledgeable and gives many tips and instructions.
I’ve learned a lot from him about posture and training methods, which I can apply when I train for myself. In addition, he is just a very nice guy that I get along with well. He has patience, knows how to push you in a good way to get one step further, but he also knows exactly when enough is enough. Afterwards I am always very happy that I went. Oh and let’s not forget, the training material is of top quality as well!
Anne Aardening – Owner Polaris (Mental Health)
Training with Mike is something to look forward to every week. It doesn’t matter if your motivation has to be pulled out of your toes or if you are going through the roof with energy before a workout: Mike is able to sense this flawlessly and knows exactly how far you can go.
During the training, nothing and nobody other than you seems to exist for Mike and with his enormous passion, drive and ever-present smile, he is able to make you do more than you thought you could each time. His thorough knowledge also ensures that the training sessions are balanced and responsible.
In short: it doesn’t get more personal than exercising with Mike and I view it as the best investment I could possibly give to myself. As a mindfulness trainer myself, I can truly attest that by training at MIO I keep both my body and mind in perfect shape!
Giel Graven – Social worker
Things in my head don’t work. At least not always and certainly not always the way I would like them to. And whenever this happens, I believe it is okay to look for some help. So, that’s what I did and it turned out to be hard work.
In order to get my “mind issues” well organized, I decided to give my body some extra personal attention as a gift. A little bit of pushing, pulling, bumping, stretching, some push-ups, sit-ups, squats and lunges, but with the right personal guidance. This is what I call heart(!) work.
But where can I do this? Close to home! And close to home, that’s MIO. In a literal sense, but certainly also figuratively after the extensive intake. I did not need to look elsewhere. I found a great man with a big heart who knew exactly what I needed. And what I still need.
That’s what Mike means to me. He sees me coming, “reads” me and knows what I need. No fixed program, always a tailor-made approach. In my size. Every training a true Personal Training.
Charlotte Schambergen – Physiotherapist
After I stopped playing hockey one year ago, I started getting into endurance sports; swimming and running. Being a physiotherapist, I know that not only stamina is important to stay fit, but that strength also plays a very important role in this. I opted for MIO personal training because this way I could specifically train my strength in a controlled way, with the aim of staying fit and perhaps even improving my results in endurance sports.
After only a small number of training sessions I already feel fitter and stronger, not only during exercise but also in my daily life!
